About the Centre for European Studies
The Centre for European Studies (CES) was established by the Council of Chulalongkorn University in October 1997, building upon the Chulalongkorn University European Studies Programme (CUESP), an ESP project funded by the European Commission since 1993. The Centre continues to advance academic excellence in European Studies across Thailand and the ASEAN region.
Our Mission
The Centre for European Studies aims to foster a deeper understanding of the European Union among Thai academics, students, policymakers, government officials, and civil society — with particular focus on the European integration process and the evolving relationship between ASEAN/Thailand and Europe.
Through international workshops, conferences, training programmes, teaching, and publications, CES disseminates knowledge and up-to-date information on European affairs within Thailand and the ASEAN region. The Centre also cultivates a cooperative network between Thai/ASEAN and European scholars, and builds linkages between Thai and European institutions at bilateral, ASEAN, and EU levels.
Key Activities
- Research and Publications: Undertaking research on European politics, economics, history, and law; publishing the Journal of European Studies
- Academic Programmes: Coordinating the M.A. in European Studies with the Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University
- Conferences and Seminars: Organising international conferences, special lecture series, and public seminars
- European Document Centre (EDC): Providing research support facilities in collaboration with the Centre for Academic Resources
- Network Building: Developing partnerships with European universities, EU institutions, and ASEAN partner organisations
