The Centre for European Studies offers a range of educational programmes and activities designed to promote understanding of European integration, EU affairs, and Europe’s role in global politics and economics.
M.A. in European Studies
Our flagship programme — the Master of Arts in European Studies — is a full-time, one-year degree taught in English. Designed for graduates interested in the emerging links between Europe and ASEAN, the programme covers European integration across history, law, political science, and economics.
Programme Options:
- Thesis Programme: 36 credits including four core courses, three specialised courses, and a twelve-credit thesis
- Non-thesis Programme: 36 credits including four core courses, five specialised courses, and three advanced courses, plus a comprehensive examination
Admission: Applications are accepted from November onwards. Requirements include an official transcript, two letters of recommendation, English proficiency test scores (TOEFL 550 / IELTS 5.5 / CU-TEP 550), and a two-page essay on research interests and career plans.
Introduction to European Integration
CES offers an interdisciplinary general education course on “Introduction to EU Integration” for all Chulalongkorn University students. The course covers history, law, political science, economics, and international relations between the EU, ASEAN, and Thailand. Students also visit the Delegation of the European Commission in Thailand each semester.
Academic Lectures
The Educational Division organises academic lectures twice a year, promoting European affairs knowledge among secondary school, high school, and university teachers. Lectures are delivered in Thai by distinguished speakers and experts in their fields.
Scholarships and Opportunities
- Erasmus Mundus: Exchange and scholarship opportunities with European universities
- Research Grants: CES research funding for promising researchers (40,000–60,000 Baht per grant)
- Essay Contests: Annual competitions to stimulate interest in European Studies
