M.A. in European Studies

The Interdisciplinary Department of European Studies at Chulalongkorn University’s Graduate School offers one of Southeast Asia’s pioneering Master of Arts programmes in European Studies.

Programme Overview

The M.A. in European Studies is a full-time, one-year degree programme taught in English. Designed for international graduates with an interest in the emerging links between European and ASEAN countries, it is among the first advanced study programmes in Thailand and Southeast Asia focusing on the European Union and European integration.

Thesis Programme (36 credits)

  • Four core courses

  • Twelve-credit thesis (supervised by Chulalongkorn and European academics)

Non-thesis Programme (36 credits)

  • Four core courses
  • Five specialised courses
  • Three advanced courses (Current Topics of the EU, Individual Study, Seminar on Individual Research)
  • Comprehensive examination

Academic Staff

More than 80% of lectures are given by European visiting professors from distinguished universities and research institutions, each with specific expertise in their discipline.

Admission Requirements

  • Official transcript (in English) from previous university (plus 2 copies)
  • Two letters of recommendation (in English)
  • English proficiency: TOEFL 550 / IELTS 5.5 / CU-TEP 550
  • Two-page essay on present activities, research interests, and future career plans
  • Two photographs
  • ID card copies (Thai students) or passport (international students)
  • Application fee: 650 Baht

Tuition Fees

  • Thai Students: 120,000 Baht per term
  • International Students: 177,000 Baht per term

Books and class materials are excluded from tuition fees. A Teacher Assistant grant may be available each year.
