Centre for European Studies

Welcome to the Centre for European Studies

Established in 1997 at Chulalongkorn University, the Centre for European Studies (CES) is Thailand’s leading academic institution dedicated to the study of European integration, EU affairs, and ASEAN–Europe relations.

What We Do

CES promotes a deeper understanding of Europe among Thai academics, students, policymakers, and the broader public through teaching, research, international conferences, and publications. Our work spans politics, economics, law, history, and international relations.

M.A. in European Studies

Our flagship postgraduate programme — taught in English — is designed for international graduates interested in the links between Europe and ASEAN. The one-year, full-time degree covers EU integration from historical, legal, political, and economic perspectives. It is among the first advanced programmes of its kind in Southeast Asia.

Research & Publications

CES undertakes research on European politics, economics, and regional integration. We publish the Journal of European Studies (วารสารยุโรปศึกษา) and host research seminars connecting Thai and European scholars. Our European Document Centre (EDC) provides reference materials and research support facilities.

Academic Events & Lectures

Throughout the year, CES organises special lecture series, public seminars, and international conferences on topics ranging from EU migration policy to European economic integration. We welcome diplomats, practitioners, and leading academics as guest speakers.

Partnerships & Networks

CES maintains cooperative networks with European universities, EU institutions, and ASEAN partner organisations. We coordinate exchange programmes, joint research projects, and scholarship opportunities including Erasmus Mundus and EURAXESS ASEAN.
